EATS :: Donuts, Donuts and Donuts

Donuts, who doesn't love these fried breakfast pastries. There's so many kinds to choose from - glazed, bearclaw, chocolate bar, and so much more. Outside of the traditional, there's so much more that you can find now outside of the ever so trendy Cronut. Here are some places in Orange County I like to go to get my fix for some special donuts.

The Donuttery - What's great about this place is it's open 24 hours. Not only do they have all the original kinds of donuts, but they have a bunch of different kinds of cake donuts. These cake donuts are more dense than the tradition and come in tons of flavors - blueberry, red velvet, strawberry, etc. This place also has it's own version of the cronut.

Sidecar Donuts - This place has gourmet donuts that are some of the best that I've ever had. These run on the pricey side, but they really are special donuts with flavors you won't find else where. The texture of the donuts are nice crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Most also have a nice of hint of salt to help balance the sweetness. Their flavors are also always changing so I can't wait to come back and see what's new.

After's Ice Cream - The Milky Bun - I can't believe how fast this started trending thank's to social media. Great viral marketing on this. What is a Milky Bun? It's a donut, stuffed with ice cream and sealed with a waffle iron. This place opened up less than a month ago and there's still a long line out the door every time I drive by it. The Milky Bun tastes exactly like what it is, it's a donut with ice cream inside. But I love donuts and ice cream so i really did enjoy this concoction.

After's also has an awesome selection of handmade ice cream. I enjoyed the milk + cereal and cookie butter flavors. Another interesting flavor they had was the cookie monster, which was as blue as it's namesake and had cookie dough throughout.

The donuts for the Milky Buns - they look like hamburger buns - you can pick unglazed or glazed.

The Milky Bun - unglazed with Cookie Butter and captain crunch cereal added in.
Here's what the glazed one looks like ripped in half.

Nom nom, in the end, I would come back, but not if there's a line out the door.
